Here is the list of the top 5 assists leaders in the league.

  1. Steve Nash, PHO 10.7
  2. Jason Kidd, NJ 10.5
  3. Chris Paul, NOR 10.4
  4. Deron Williams, UTA 9.1
  5. Baron Davis, GS 8.6

This is quite an impressive list with 2 definite Hall of Famers, two great young players and someone really fun to watch in Baron Davis. If things fall into play we could be talking about 4 Hall of Famers... maybe 5!?! Talk about a golden age for point guards in the league. This could be helped out by some of the rule changes in the past few years... but its impressive to say the least.

Lets dive a bit deeper into this.

Jason Kidd - Do I need to make an argument here?
Steve Nash - The 2 MVP's and his play in the last 5 years speaks for itself.

Chris Paul - His career numbers are at 8.5APG and 16.8PPG. He's only in his 3rd year and his numbers are rising. If you figure he ends up somewhere around these numbers his career totals are higher than someone like Gary Payton or Bob Cousy. So the question is simply can he stay healthy and longevity.

Deron Williams - His case is similar to Chris Paul. His stats are 7.1APG and 13.9PPG. However if you eliminate his rookie year and he's in the 9APG and 17PPG category. These are definately hall of fame numbers. He's helped life Utah from a team that people thought would be down and out for years to a solid contender as witnessed by last years playoff performances.

Baron Davis - His stats are at 7.2APG and 16.6PPG. He's often been injured so that is a big question mark. However overall these are really solid numbers and it seems the past 2 years have seen him getting really comfortable on a team that is on an upswing under Coach Nelson. I have a feeling that at 28 he could be one of those late bloomers like Steve Nash. So it all comes down to the next 3-4 years for him to see if he leaves a lasting mark or just fades away.

Besides these 5 guys we also have some other notable guys that really make an argument for this being the Golden Age for point guards in the league. Guys like Chauncey Billups (his early career stuff is hurting him), Kirk Hinrich (his erratic scoring hurts him), Tony Parker (a bit low on the assist side) are really quite impressive as well.

All in all, this is a great time if you're a point guard fan. I know I definately am.

Portland 10 Wins in a Row

I simply can't believe this. How the hell is this happening? Honestly I don't think this is good for the future of the team. They should take this opportunity with Oden injured to stink it up at least one more year. Then stockpile another high pick and dominate for years. Don't people understand that sometimes when you suck that you should suck to the highest ability you can. Else you'll be in that forever nowhere zone for ever.

Look at all the championship teams besides the Pistons. They always have a guy that is the pillar of the team that came through a high draft pick. Thats just the nature of the NBA. So teams with 'blah' teams... collapse grandly and go for broke.

Highest Scoring NBA Game

December 17, 2007 by paul

Man... I always smile when I think of the Denver Nuggets in the mid 80's. Just the thought of them running down the court and Fat Lever taking a shot within a few seconds. I wonder how many teams set their all time scoring nights against these teams.

The NBA official site has a great recap of the highest scoring game ever between the Nuggets and the Pistons. That stats are staggering.

Also... here is a link to the scorecard.

Seems that someone else has hit up on the exact same idea I pointed out a few weeks ago. Check out their blog post here:

I honestly don't believe he is going anywhere. If it was an ideal world tho I know that the Lakers would love him. Hell while we're in fantasy land... what about the Celtics or Spurs or Mavericks.

Thats a very good point... I always seem to forget that sports are like any other business and that you need to do things to make people feel comfortable with each other. I guess it just seems so abstract, but when you think about it most of these players are just guys in their 20's. Keeping them happy goes a long way. I guess Mark Cuban set a good trend there with pampering his players.

Ohhhh... i like that theory. Whip out the good stuff when they're good and ready. Let the crappy years be associated with the multitude of horrendouse jerseys we have seen.

Of course when they reveal the new retro awesome updated jerseys they also had Dominique, Moses & Spud show up and throw a big party as well.

Well perhaps his financial advisor knew it was some really good deal or something. My guess is that he owned 1 piece of stock. Just like you can claim to be a minority shareholder in Nokia. Muahahahha

YAWNS... I just don't know if they can pull off a repeat. ;)

The mid 80's red and yellow is just classic. Dominique DEFINED it. They also had that crazy hawk logo that looked like Pac Man gone wrong.

Am I the only one that grew up and never even recognized the hawk for years just thinking it was something pac man related?

Paris or London get the first NBA team?

November 29, 2007 by paul

Then again... if they were to do NBA Europe you would have to get a few different teams going. I wonder if any players from the US would be interested in going overseas as a first option. Not the 2nd option it is now.

Then again Euroleague does fill the need for europeans. Just doesn't have the NBA stamp of approval.

Kevin Durant is soooo thin.

November 29, 2007 by paul

He's starting to look better and better... but man this guy is a toothpick. I wonder if he will hit the weights in the offseason.

Do NBA players do much exercising and weightlifting during the season? Seems like they would be so exhausted from their multitude of games.

Damn. I can't believe both of us picked Eastern Division teams. I wonder who else will vote like that.

Re: Bulls

November 29, 2007 by paul

Yea its quite ridiculous. How many of the guys picked them to win the East. The Bulls are on a 1 game winning streak now!
